1. All In One Self Cleaning RF Probe
The Simplex AIO-SC (All In One Self Cleaning) transmitter has been developed specifically for raw sugar continuous vacuum pan applications. The AIO-SC transducer uses the same robust probe design which was developed for use with the standard Simplex transducer. The AIO version has the electronics and probe integrated into one unit. This does away with the requirement for restricted length high quality coaxial cables and RF connectors.
The AIO-SC is supplied with a 3m (screened twin core) flying lead for wiring directly to a two wire 4 to 20mA input system. The mA output from the Simplex transducer is proportional to the massecuite brix, but is also slightly affected by temperature, and purity of the massecuite. Since the purity normally only changes gradually and all continuous vacuum pans have vacuum control, the affect of temperature is very repeatable for each boiling. Therefore, these affects can be ignored for all practical control purposes in raw sugar boilings. The Simplex transducer can be used in all continuous sugar boiling applications up to 96% massecuite purity.
2. Digital Chute Level Transducer
The DCL digital mill chute level indicator is purpose designed to provide reliable indication of the feed stock level in type mill feed chutes. Either 6 or 10 sensing electrodes may be used. The use of 10 electrodes for chute heights in excess of 1.5m is highly recommended as it gives a better measurement resolution. For shorter chute heights 6 or 10 electrodes may be used.
Each DCL unit provides local level indication easily visible up to 100m away, via 6 or 10 high brightness display quality LEDs, and has a 4 to 20mA output signal for use in analogue indication and control systems.
Provision is also made to drive 6/10 externally mounted LEDs or relays if required.
Each DCL unit is fitted with high chute level change over contacts, which may be utilised to operate alarms and/or to trip carrier systems on a high chute level.
Setting the switch selectable operating mode (2 switches) and the individual sensing channel sensitivity are all that is required for system commissioning
3. NIR Moisture Meter
The Cooknell Electronics NIR Moisture Meter is a non-contact instrument for instant and continuous measurement of bagasse water content. Bagasse is the fibrous material that remains after the sugar cane has been through the mills to extract the juice.
It is common practice for the bagasse from the mills to be used as a fuel. However, the moisture content of the bagasse limits its calorific value as a fuel. The calorific value is very sensitive to the moisture content as can be seen from the following table.
Bagasse Moisture (%) | Typical Calorific Value (kJ/kg) |
46 | 8072 |
48 | 7658 |
50 | 7244 |
52 | 6830 |
54 | 6416 |
It is therefore very beneficial to dry the bagasse before it is fed into the boilers. The NIR moisture meter can be used to monitor performance of the drying process. It can also be used to monitor the moisture content of the bagasse coming directly from the mills as a measure of mill performance.
4. Simplex Radio Frequency Sugar Boiling Transmitter
The mA output from the Simplex transducer is primarily proportional to the massecuite consistency but is also slightly affected by temperature, and purity of the massecuite. In order to provide a reliable simple measurement system, no other signal processing is carried out by this transmitter. If signal linearization to brix is required this can easily be performed by the addition of the required functions on most modern control systems.
Our Simplex range of RF quick release probes at 500mm insertion length, have the longest reach of any RF sugar boiling probe currently on the market. This enables the sensing tip to be located at, or closer to the point of maximum massecuite velocity and therefore obtain the best possible reading for pan control.
